NUPENG Tanker drivers begin indefinite strike
Petroleum tanker drivers in Nigeria have commenced an indefinite strike which was scheduled to start today, Monday, April 3.
The drivers, under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) had warned on Sunday that there would be no going back on the strike.
The commencement of the strike was confirmed to Pulse by South-West NUPENG Chairman, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo.
“The strike is ongoing already," Korodo said when asked if the industrial action would still hold as planned.
Korodo
had earlier said that NUPENG would proceed with the strike because no
positive response had been received from the government.
Tanker drivers around the country are expected to shun fuel depots until their demands are met.
Their complaints include poor salaries, poor employee welfare, bad roads and insecurity on the highways among other things. The Federal Government is yet to issue an official response to the strike.
