Resident doctors explain reasons for strike at University teaching hospital

The Kwara chapter of the National Association of Resident Doctors has said that the ongoing strike at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) is because of non-implementation of new salary scale.

The Chairman of the association, Dr Ade Faponle, told newsmen in Ilorin on Sunday that the association had no choice than to embark on the industrial action.
Faponle explained that the hospital management was yet to yield to their demand for implementation of the new salary scale.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that for almost two weeks UITH had been without the services of the resident doctors, which had effect on the hospital.
The UITH Head of Personnel and Training, Surajudeen Lawal, explained that the Resident doctors refused to accept the criteria set by the Federal Ministry of Health.
Lawal said the doctors insisted on the one set by the Nigerian Medical Association.
