SSS: Lawyers protest agency's disobedience of court orders
Lawyers in Abuja have protested the alleged continued disobedience of court orders by the State Security Service, SSS.
According
to a report by Premium Times, several lawyers were spotted at the
Federal High Court Headquarters in Maitama alongside members of the
civil society community protesting actions of the SSS.
It
was further reported that the lawyers stormed the Attorney General’s
office, National Human Rights Commission to make their grievances known.
The protesting lawyers have reportedly maintained that judges must not step down from cases involving the SSS.
The lawyers also threatened an industrial action by judiciary workers should the SSS continue to disobey pending judgements.
The
protesting lawyers are also said to be planning to be at the Three Arms
Zone, which hosts the Aso Rock presidential villa, Supreme Court and
the National Assembly
“Currently, major roads
have been barricaded and there is palpable tension as the protesters
meet heavy resistance from security agents who are blocking the
protesters who are insisting on marching into Aso Rock,” a witness told PREMIUM TIMES.
Following the arrest and detention of judges and justices, some judges have recently stood down from cases involving the SSS.
